We ll start with the frame.
How to make a curtain backdrop frame.
Step 1 pvc pipes are.
For example if the curtain panel is 63 inches long cut each pvc pipe 69.
To make our frame we decided to build two legs with feet to keep them sturdy and notches on top of the legs that could hold 2 curtain rods for our fabric to hang from.
Now add a 4 foot section horizontally between the two.
Add a t connection to the bottom of each 7ft piece with the middle part facing in towards the rest of the backdrop.
The 2 and 1 lengths are interchangeable as feet for the backdrop.
Add the fabric to the pvc backdrop stand.
Trim your pipe to size using the miter box and saw.
Scrunch up the fabric for a draped look rather than a flat backdrop and add an additional panel of fabric.
Silver fabric curtain.
This will connect to the 2nd set of t connections.
Place double sided tape on the fabric to create a seam.
Dislodge the top bar of the stand from one elbow and place the fabric on top of the bar.
We used four 4 foot pipes for the horizontal sections and eight 1.
Insert the two 3 pipes in the bottom of the t connections.
The curtain acts as a neutral backdrop preventing audience members from viewing scene changes that would otherwise distract from the setting.
If your performance calls for a retractable curtain but you have limited space you can build a simple portable stage curtain frame with pulleys in time for curtain call.
Our backdrop consisted of a couple parts the frame and the fabric.
Cut two side frame pieces from the 3 4 inch pvc pipe 6 inches longer than the length of your ready made tab top curtains.
Reinsert the bar and elbow.
If more stability is needed use all 4 2 lengths.
Start at the bottom with two 1 5 foot sections.
Use the two elbow connections to attach one 6 ft piece to the two 7ft pieces.
